UC Davis REU Program, Summer 2004 

     Ten students (6 women, 4 men) attended the first year of the Physics Department's NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates site. 

 
      

Research Projects (more details)

      Projects were in Condensed Matter Experiment and Theory, Computational Complex Systems, High Energy Experiment, Nuclear Experiment, and Cosmology.

Field Trips (more details)

     The five field trips in 2004 were an overnight stay at Lake Tahoe, a visit to the San Francisco Exploratorium and the coastal redwoods of nearby Muir Woods, a tour of Lick Observatory with its historic and still-active telescopes, a talk with physicists at the Davis-based miniature computer manufacturer Z-World, and a tour of the Advanced Light Source and other facilities at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory

Presentations

     Each student gave a 15-minute presentation, with 5 minutes for discussion.  The entire physics department was invited to attend.  The presentations took place over two afternoons near the end of the program.
