Physics 105C
Continuum Mechanics
Continuum mechanics is the study of mechanical properties of materials,
in the limit where they can be treated as continuous media, ignoring the
discrete atoms that compose them. This class covers two main topics:
deformations of solid materials under pressure, and fluid dynamics. The
treatment includes an introduction to tensors.
Physics 105C is intended for junior and senior physics majors. It is not
taught every year. It was last offered in Fall 2022 and will probably be
taught again in Fall 2024.
